Student Workshops, 2008 Workshop 1 |
The Indiana
Players sponsor Theater Workshops. Some are for children, some for
teens and adults. Workshops may cover how to read a script, basic acting
skills, and what to do at rehearsals. They can help participants learn about
behind-the-scenes activities such as running the sound board, learning about
lighting, stage managing, and other topics revolving around a production. We
also provide helpful hints and tips for auditioning for a show. Children's
workshops end with the participants performing the show they have rehearsed
for their families and friends.
Michael Feight instructs attendees in the variations of theatrical lighting before giving participants a chance to get some hands-on experience of their own with our light board.
**All workshop facilitators have received appropriate
clearance from child protection authorities.** |

Children's Theater Workshop In 2007, all 4th, 5th, and 6th-grade students were invited to enroll in the Children's Theater Workshop, sponsored by the Indiana Players. The two-week workshop took place June 18-22 and June 25-29 at the Philadelphia Street Playhouse. The workshop was open to all school districts—not just Indiana. This workshop was completely free, and no experience was necessary. At the end of the workshop, all parents, friends, and neighbors were invited to a demonstration of the skills learned. Acting Workshop International actor and
director
Adan Sandoval
graciously donated his time to conduct an acting workshop in October, 2006.
“In the workshop we work to enhance the participants’ ability to gain awareness of their body movement and potential for communication using body language,” said Sandoval. “Actors and actresses will work first with masks devoid of expression and then work without the masks.”
